The Goddess photoshoots were born out of the pandemic—though I didn’t know at the time just how much they would change my life.
When COVID hit in 2020 I had JUST quit my job as a part time content creator, to pursue my wedding photography business full time, of course my season did not pan out the way I had expected. At first, it was devastating, for the past five years since graduating from photography school, I had been working towards my goal of full time self employment, and just when I reached that goal, it was ripped away from me in an instant.
There were so many unknowns as we all remember, and with my entire season put on hold, I found myself feeling pretty bored. My little sister Daphne had just started an internship in my town (Biddeford, Maine) for the summer, and was living with me, so we spent many evenings just having fun doing creative photoshoots at the beach, in the the woods, down town. Just trying anything and everything to keep ourselves busy and flex our creative muscles!
I had always been interested in more “fantasy driven” imagery, and figured now was as good a time as any to try it out! I began renting gowns as a way to build up my wedding portfolio, and when one company posted that a sheer, glittering gown was available for a limited rental, I jumped at the opportunity. I looked up a tutorial on YouTube for how to make a halo crown, and when the gown arrived, Daphne and I headed to a beautiful beach at sunset, to create a set of images that literally changed my life forever!
After I shared these photos online, it became clear to me that other women wanted to experience this kind of photoshoot for themselves. So, I hosted my first ever “Goddess Mini Session” event. I rented some gorgeous glittering gowns and and opened up a few spots for women to come and have their own mini Goddess moment. At the time, I still kind of thought of it as just a fun creative project—an opportunity to play with styling and create magical images. But after that first event, I realized this was so much more than just pretty pictures. Women were using their Goddess photoshoot as a way to escape the crazy reality that we were living in, to play and feel joy.
Not long after that first event, I convinced my grandmother to do a Goddess photoshoot of her own. She had been stuck inside for so long during the pandemic, and I wanted to give her something to lift her spirits. She was hesitant at first, but ultimately embraced the experience, we literally snapped the photos in her living room!
I couldn’t wait to share the images on my Instagram, and it was an instant hit, my first post to ever crack one thousand likes! But not only that, the comments were so beautiful. People were touched by these photos in a way that I didn’t expect! This was the beginning of another amazing chapter of the Goddess story.
Originally, my Goddess photoshoots were short and sweet—15-minute mini sessions designed to give clients a fun and whimsical experience. But as I worked with more women, I saw how deeply these sessions resonated with them.
Women weren’t just coming to take pretty pictures; they were coming to see themselves differently. They were stepping outside of their everyday lives, shedding insecurities, and allowing themselves to be the center of something magical. I started hearing stories—stories of healing, of self-discovery, of reclaiming confidence after loss or hardship. And I realized I needed to make space for that.
So, I expanded the experience. Instead of rushing through a handful of poses, I gave each client the time to truly sink into their Goddess moment. I curated wardrobe options, sourced intricate props, and scouted breathtaking natural locations to create an immersive fantasy world. What started as a simple portrait session turned into something much deeper—a celebration of self.
One of the most powerful things about these shoots is that there is no age limit to feeling like a Goddess. Some of my most memorable sessions have been with women in their 60s, 70s, and 80s—women who, for the first time in years (or ever), saw themselves as art.
I’ve photographed women who were stepping into a new chapter of life, celebrating milestones, or simply saying, I deserve this moment for myself. Some have come to honor the bodies that carried them through illness, motherhood, grief, and joy. Some have come to reclaim a part of themselves they felt they had lost. Every single one of them has left an impact on me.
There are so many moments in life where we are asked to be small—to take up less space, to be practical, to blend in. The Goddess photoshoot is about the opposite. It’s about embracing your power, your presence, your story. It’s about taking up space.
And that’s why these photoshoots have evolved into something so much bigger than I ever imagined. They are not just photos. They are permission slips. They are love letters to yourself. They are tangible proof that you are art, that you are worthy of being seen, that you are a Goddess.
If you’ve ever felt the pull to do something like this—to step into a world where you are celebrated, adorned, and uplifted—this is your sign. You don’t need an occasion. You don’t need a reason. You just need to say yes to yourself.
