Fast fashion is so tempting, and so hard to avoid. And of course, not everyone has the budget to fill their wardrobe with sustainably made, small batch eco friendly clothing items. This is where vintage and second hand clothing comes in. Giving clothing items a second life is so much better than tossing them into the trash when they no longer fit the current trends. And this shoot is proof that something from another era, can be styled to fit a multitude of fashion tastes!

For this creative session, Cindy, the owner of the Biddeford Maine based vintage clothing shop “Alchemy”, wanted to show how vintage lace dresses (mainly from the 90s) could be styled in a soft and feminine way, and alternatively, in more of a grungy-streetwear manner. We started the shoot in a lush summery backyard, staged with a vintage sofa, lighting fixtures, and rattan chairs. Our gorgeous models (Daija, Nyxx and Berta) danced barefoot, picnicked and played cards in the late setting sun.

For the contrasting look, we headed to Portland, Maine’s underground speakeasy bar “Lincolns”. Paired with graphic tees, sneakers, belts and sequins, the lace dresses took on an entirely new vibe! I had so much fun brining Cindy’s vision to life, and hopefully these images inspire you to shop vintage if you have not tried it yet!
